If you've been in for yoga this week, you've most definitely noticed some major changes. Our yoga studio looks a little different. There's more wall space, cubbies are in the studio for personal items, and there are benches out in the hall for you to sit on while you don and doff your shoes. With that transition and with our sitting area moving into the healing suite, we noticed that we had a lot of open space in our art studio. And one of our goals here at Sol Space is to make sure we are utilizing our resources in ways that are meaningful to our community.
Enter: open studio hours. If you're an artist who is looking for a shared work space or you're looking to connect with a community of artists, here's an excellent opportunity for you to do just that. Adult artists can drop in for 2 hour blocks of time throughout the week with no specific time commitment for just 10 dollars per drop-in (artists provide their own materials). Alternatively, memberships are available for purchase and include unlimited studio time during open studio hours and storage for your supplies and work for $50/month.
Open Studio hours for adults:
Saturday: 9-1p (members only)
**additional studio hours may be available by request**
For budding artists, we will have kids' open studio hours, too. We are super excited that this will be taking the place of our preschool art classes. Kids of all ages will be able to come in, use materials set out for them and take or leave the option to be guided through a process based art activity with Richelle (a prek-12 certified educator with a BA in fine arts). Children will be encouraged to express themselves creatively in a safe and supervised environment regardless of how they choose to interact with the art activity. Parents can stay and participate with their children without worrying about planning or cleaning up each activity. Or, if your child is potty trained and willing to receive direction from another adult, feel free to take a yoga class, sit and relax in our healing suite with a book and a cup of tea or head over to Fiore's for a bagel and some coffee. Each 2 hour drop-in session will only cost 15 dollars per child or an open-studio membership can be purchased for $65/month.
Open Studio hours for kids:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 9-11a
**depending on interest, additional hours may be available throughout the week**
In addition to these new developments in our art studio, we will be hosting a new regularly scheduled meditative drawing class on Tuesday evenings from 5:15-6:15p. We'll have everything you need to start or further your own meditative art practice. Richelle will be there to guide you if necessary, but this class will be a *mostly* silent class, giving participants an opportunity to go inward and tap into their creative energies. All levels are encouraged to participate and one does not have to consider themselves an artist to show up and practice.
And finally, I couldn't say all of these things about art without thanking those of you who came out to make our first art pop-up an overwhelming success. Folks braved questionable roads and bad weather to be together to support local artists. The turn out was amazing and we're already starting to plan the next show in April. If you didn't get a chance to see the exhibit, there's still time! Artists left select works up in the healing suite of Sol Space. So stop in and take a look and maybe even take a piece of art home with you.
You are all amazing and invaluable. Thank you for continuing to show up and for bringing all of yourself to share with us at Sol Space. I am overwhelmed with joy and gratitude.
